Heidi Carney

I grew up in Colorado, in a family that spent every available minute doing something outside, so it made sense that my work revolved around the outdoors too. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Technical Journalism from Colorado State University (I majored in Public Relations and minored in Marketing) I began a journey through which I developed a solid foundation in print production, web development, graphic design, photography, videography, and a smattering of sales and management thrown in for good measure. All of this, of course, was highlighted by the occasional chance to fish, hunt, hike, or just hang back and shoot my camera. I’ve worn a variety of hats, including photographer, ad agency project tracker, print media designer, production artist, and lead web developer for Fly Fisherman magazine  — which is where I found my niche — designing and maintaining sites for outdoor industry giants Orvis, Simms Fishing Products, and literally hundreds of manufacturers, guides, lodges, and outfitters. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that shaped who I am today.

In 2005, thanks to my very supportive husband, I was fortunate to stay home and spend the early years with our daughter. I wouldn’t trade that for anything and found a new appreciation for the challenging job that all moms do.  I enjoyed watching our little girl grow into a young woman, and still managed to produce a little work on the side, to satisfy the creative monster in me that occasionally shows its terrible claws, and gnashes its terrible teeth, LOL. During this time I created and managed a number of WordPress websites for clients, shot and edited videos for YouTube, created lots of PowerPoint presentations, and am currently learning how to use Figma to translate my love of design into UI/UX projects, starting with app development… just for fun.
