Thank you for taking the time to visit my website! I’m looking for for a fulfilling career – one where I can be creative and apply my skills and experience to help my employer achieve their short- and long-term goals. Here’s a little bit about me.

I grew up in the foothills of Colorado, in a family that was focused on the outdoors – fishing and hiking our way through the Rocky Mountains I love to this day, and still dream about.  In 1988, I graduated from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, with a BA in Technical Journalism, primarily focused on public relations and marketing. I worked for a while in sales and as a photographer, and later at a creative agency, where my interest in design was piqued. Not long after learning the basics of Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark Express (later Adobe InDesign) I learned how to code in HTML – opening a whole new world of possibilities.

Those skills came together when I worked at The Virtual Flyshop – what was to become the world’s largest hub of fly fishing enthusiasts, manufacturers and outfitters on the planet. Under the support of Fly Fisherman Magazine, we (a startup crew of two former Canadian fishing guides and myself) created a resource where enthusiasts could learn, share information and buy goods and services via our hub. We also took every opportunity to fish the beautiful waters of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Idaho as often as we could  I even met the man I would marry on one of those trips to Yellowstone National Park.  As the lead web developer I was privileged to create the first online catalogs for outdoor giants Orvis and Simms Fishing Products, as well as the first websites for a majority of fly fishing product manufacturers and outfitters, in a fun, creative, collaborative environment. That was long enough ago that none of those sites remain as I built them, which is as it should be – ever evolving.

I left that rewarding job to marry and move to northern Minnesota and later to central Illinois, where our daughter was born. During that time I produced a number of projects including websites, print ads, digital animations and other contract work as a freelancer. I also volunteered my time and skills to help with fundraising efforts for our junior high school’s cross country team. Recent projects include print production, PowerPoint presentations, YouTube video filming and production, and social media strategies. Please visit my portfolio to see examples of some of those projects.

Once our daughter graduated from junior high in 2019, I felt the urge to move forward in my career. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had other plans.  Our daughter is now a very independent 17-year old and finding her own way in the world – soon to be heading to college. That reality brings me back to my own career goals. I continue to be a voracious consumer and producer of all media that interest me – photography, writing, digital design, video production, social media strategies and so much more. I’m hard working and willing to quickly learn what I don’t know. I’m ready to be a positive force in your company, and become a valuable part of your team.
